Super Chocolatey Pancakes!

What can be better than pancakes? CHOCOLATE PANCAKES!! As a kid I’ve always wanted to eat chocolate pancakes but my mom thought it was too unhealthy. But now I am a 20 year old adult and I can make I can finally make my own choices regardless how unhealthy they maybe. Haha! So let’s get cookin’!


Yield: 10-12 small pancakes or 6 large pancakes

Prep Time: 5 mins for pancakes

Cook Time: 15 mins for pancakes

Total Time: 20 minutes


1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder  *Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa Powder*
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon light brown sugar, packed
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
pinch salt
3/4 cup chopped chocolate chips
1 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all the dry ingredients, except the chocolate chip, together; then set aside.
  2. In a large measuring cup or bowl, whisk together final 4 wet ingredients.
  3. Add wet to dry, and fold gently to combine. *if it’s too thick, add a splash of additional buttermilk to thin it.*
  4. Fold the chocolate chips to the batter
  5. Spray a small non-stick skillet with cooking spray, and place over medium-low  heat.
  6. Scoop 2-tablespoon mounds of batter in skillet. Cook pancakes on first side for about 2-3 minutes, flip and cook on second side for less than a minute
  7.  Repeat until all batter is gone, respraying both skillet and scoop with cooking spray when necessary.
  8. Serve pancakes hot with butter, syrup, or your favorite topping
